If you are located in the EU or UK

  • If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records

THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS (ALL SERVICES)

We use your information to perform our own analytics and to enable analytics provided by third parties and other essential functions. We use analytical information for supporting business analysis and operations, business intelligence, product development, and improving our Services.

  • Formspree: Contact form processing service used on our websites to handle contact form submissions. For more information, visit Formspree Privacy Policy.
  • OpenPanel: Self-hosted analytics service used across our Services for anonymized usage statistics and performance metrics. As this service is self-hosted on our own infrastructure, your data is not shared with any third party.

WEB APPLICATIONS

This section applies specifically to our web application How High Am I?, a free online GPS altimeter, and our websites.

Data Collection

How High Am I? is designed with a privacy-first approach. Your location is read only inside your browser to display your altitude. No GPS coordinates, altitude, or location data is ever uploaded to, stored on, or transmitted to our servers.

How your location is used:

  • To show your current elevation, the app reads your device’s GPS position directly in your browser using the standard Geolocation API. Positions are used only to calculate and display your altitude on your device and are never sent anywhere.

Data We Do NOT Collect:

  • GPS/location data: We never receive, store, or transmit your coordinates, altitude, or any location information. All of it stays on your device.
  • Account data: The tool requires no sign-up or account.

Data We May Collect:

  • Website analytics: We use a self-hosted instance of OpenPanel to collect anonymous usage statistics such as page views, referrer URLs, browser type, and country. This data is not linked to your identity and is stored on our own infrastructure.
  • Contact form data: If you use our contact form, your name, email address, and message are sent to Formspree (our form processing provider) and forwarded to us via email. We use this data solely to respond to your inquiry.

Browser Location Permission

The tool asks your browser for permission to access your location so it can display your altitude. You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in your browser or device settings. The permission prompt is handled entirely by your browser, and your position never reaches our servers.

Cookies and Local Storage

How High Am I? uses browser localStorage to remember your unit preference (metres or feet). This stays on your device and is never sent to any server. We do not use tracking cookies. OpenPanel analytics may use a first-party cookie for session tracking purposes only.

  • Analytics Data: Legitimate interest — to understand how the Service is used, improve performance, and prioritize features
  • Contact Form Data: Contractual necessity — to respond to your questions, feedback, or support requests

Data Retention (Web Applications)

  • Location/altitude data: Not retained at all — it exists only in your browser’s memory while the page is open.
  • Local preferences: Stored in your browser’s localStorage until you clear your browser data.
  • Analytics data: Retained on our self-hosted infrastructure for up to 24 months.
  • Contact form data: Retained in our email systems for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry.

Third-Party Services (Web Applications)

When you use How High Am I?, your browser may interact with the following third-party services:

  • OpenPanel: Self-hosted analytics for anonymous usage statistics.
  • Formspree: Processes contact form submissions when you use the contact page. See Formspree’s Privacy Policy.
